Between Ultras

Hi,

Well, the Two Oceans (56k) marathon is now done....as usual it proved to be both challenging but lives up to its tag line "The worlds most beautiful marathon". It is awesome running through the beautiful suburbs around Cape Town and then past the small seaside resorts on the Atlantic Ocean. Then there is the awesome, spectacular...and many other words...view as you run over Chapman's peak. The views of the sea all the way up and on the way down into Hout Bay are just amazing. After that it is time to forget the view for a bit as the climb up Constantia Nek pass begins....and this is after the marathon mark...so the legs are a little tired. But then at the top it is a beautiful tree covered run down past the world famous Kirstenbosch Gardens before the final bit to the end.

Tiring but beautiful is how I would put it...although this year Nicky would say it was easy but beautiful, as she shot off from me near the end and finished a couple of minutes ahead of me dancing to the end.

Now we have a couple more weeks as we think about the taper towards the Big C (Comrades).....this is the real test of mind matter and is an amazing spiritual journey for us. As one person said to me during the Two Oceans run...."I run because running improves my prayer life". Amen to that...and it is especially true during the big C.

So we have used Two Oceans to be the end of our peak training week. We like to do a peak week of 100km and we nearly got there with a 21km a 8km and 56km ...and a few small bits....Now it's time to taper off as we head towards Comrades....
